An online certification form is now available for all high schools nationwide to select up to two students to receive a $1,000 Presidential Freedom Scholarship in recognition of their outstanding student service and active citizenship. The students selected may be either high school juniors or seniors.

Scholarship certification forms and information are available at the program’s Web site. Paper applications also are available on the site.

Scholarship application forms must be submitted by school personnel, and must contain the school principal’s signature.

The Corporation for National and Community Service provides $500 which must be matched with $500 secured by the school from the community. More than 31,000 scholarships have been awarded to date, and local scholarship matching funds have been provided by sources such as PTAs, booster or alumni clubs, businesses, and local civic organizations.

Certification forms will be accepted until July 16, 2004. All scholarship recipients will receive a letter of recognition and a President’s Volunteer Service Award pin.

The Presidential Freedom Scholarship is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service and Learn and Serve America in collaboration with USA Freedom Corps.
